Declutter your workspace with Cygnett’s USB charging hubs

Your desk tells a story, and right now it might be a messy one. Tangled cables snake across it, and your laptop doesn’t have enough ports to accommodate all those connections. Cygnett’s USB charging hubs fix that. One device pulls every cable, display, and drive into one neat connection.

Our range spans compact adapters, pocket-sized hubs, riser hubs, multiport USB charging stations, and full docking stations. Every one is designed for plug-and-play connectivity with no software, so you plug it into any laptop with a USB-C port and you are connected in seconds.

So, what exactly is a USB charging hub?

A USB charging hub is a small device that adds extra ports to your laptop and charges it at the same time. You connect one USB cable to your laptop, then plug your devices and a power source into the hub.

A data hub only adds ports for moving files, with no power sent back to your laptop. A charging hub adds those ports and feeds power through while you work.

Self-powered or bus-powered?

Hubs come in two types and the difference is where they get their power.

A self-powered hub plugs into the wall through its own power adapter. That gives it stable power for demanding accessories like drives, monitors and fast charging. A bus-powered hub draws power from your laptop instead. These are lighter and great for travel, and they handle low-power devices like keyboards, mice, and card readers without fuss.

Choose self-powered when you run several power-hungry devices at a fixed desk, like dual monitors, external drives, and a wired Ethernet connection. Pick bus-powered when you want something light for travel, or a tidy laptop setup with a handful of accessories.

Cygnett makes both. Our bus-powered hubs also carry a 100W USB-C PD pass-through port, so a charger plugged into the hub powers your laptop while the hub runs your devices.

100W of charging power at your fingertips

Many of our docking stations also carry a USB-C power port that delivers up to 100W using Power Delivery (PD). That is enough to fast charge most laptops while the dock runs your screens, drives, and network together. No need to choose between running peripherals or charging your laptop.

Most everyday laptops charge between 45W and 65W, with larger models nearer 100W, so a 100W port covers the vast majority. Though high-performance gaming laptops may need more wattage. For those, reach for one of our fast-charging wall chargers. Plugging them straight into a charging brick gives the quickest charge.

Finding the right mix of ports for your devices

The right hub comes down to the ports your devices need. Our range includes USB-C adapters for HDMI and Ethernet in single and dual setups, USB-C hubs, multiport hubs that mix USB-A and USB-C, and full docking stations that bring video, network, card readers, and charging connectivity into one unit.

Here is what each port does:

  • USB-C ports carry data, video, and charging through one reversible connector.
  • USB-A ports connect older keyboards, mice, and drives that have not moved to USB-C.
  • HDMI ports send video to external monitors
  • Ethernet ports give a wired connection through a standard network cable for steadier calls and large transfers.
  • SD and micro-SD card readers pull photos and footage off your camera or drone micro-SD cards.

HDMI output needs a laptop USB-C port that supports video through DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt, which most modern laptops do. On speed, USB 2.0 ports move data at up to 480Mbps, USB 3.0 reaches 5Gbps, and the faster USB 3.2 ports on select hubs hit 10Gbps.

Counting your ports so you never run out

Aside from the type of ports, you also need to take into account how many ports you actually need.

Start by counting the devices you want plugged in at once. Add up your monitor, mouse, keyboard, hard drive, and headset, then add a couple of spare ports for the devices you buy later.

Our range covers most needs:

  • Our 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 suits a minimal laptop that is light on connections
  • Our 6-in-1 USB-C hub is the everyday pick with USB, HDMI, and card slots
  • Our 12-in-1 or 13-in-1 docking stations can run a full desk with multiple monitors and charging.

Why Cygnett USB charging hubs are in a league of their own

Cygnett has built reliable tech for Aussies for over 20 years, and that track record shows in our USB charging hubs. We design every hub in Australia and back it with a 2 year warranty.

Here is what sets our hubs apart:

  • Many of our data and networking adapters include a built-in USB-C to USB-A adapter, so one hub works on modern USB-C devices or older USB-A peripherals without a separate dongle.
  • Our dual HDMI and multi-HDMI hubs use Multi-Stream Transport, so you can run up to three external 4K monitors as independent desktops rather than mirrored screens.
  • Select hubs push data at up to 10Gbps, and our dedicated Ethernet adapter reaches 2.5Gbps, twice the speed of standard gigabit.
  • Our powered hubs deliver 100W USB-C pass-through charging even with every port in use.
  • The HighDock 13-in-1 adds a physical locking mechanism for shared and hot-desking offices.

Say goodbye to desk clutter for good

A tidy hub turns a cluttered desk into a clear, calm workspace, with one cable to your laptop and every device in its place.

Shop Cygnett's USB charging hubs range online or in-store at leading tech retailers across Australia and beyond. While there, round out your workspace setup with our Power Banks, USB wall chargers, USB-C cables, and wireless chargers. And if you’re planning to work off-grid, check out our Portable Power Stations and solar panels for an easy sustainable power setup away from the main grid.

FAQs

1. Why does my USB charging hub keep disconnecting?
A USB charging hub usually disconnects because it is not getting enough power. Connect a charger to the hub's USB-C PD port, and check for a loose cable or too many high-draw devices at once.

2. Is it safe to leave my USB charging hub plugged in overnight?
Leaving a Cygnett USB charging hub plugged in overnight is safe. Our hubs include built-in protections against overheating and over-current. Just keep the hub in open air rather than under papers so heat can escape.

3. Do USB charging hubs need drivers or software to work?
Our USB charging hubs do not need drivers or software. They’re plug-and-play, so you connect to your laptop's USB-C port and your devices are recognised straight away on Windows, Mac, and Chromebook.

4. Can I use a USB charging hub with a games console or smart TV?
A USB charging hub works best with laptops, tablets, and phones rather than a games console or smart TV, which manage their own ports. For extra HDMI inputs on a TV, an HDMI switcher is the better tool.
