Recharge and reuse with rechargeable batteries built to keep up

Every flat battery you toss is money in the bin. Switching to rechargeable batteries breaks that cycle, and the savings show up fast.

Our rechargeable batteries come in AA and AAA sizes, both in handy 4-packs. Each cell recharges over USB-C straight from the battery, holds a steady 1.5V, and lasts up to 1,000 charges.

That's power for the devices you use most, so one purchase means years of use and far fewer disposable batteries.

Why rechargeable batteries are worth the switch

Are rechargeable batteries worth it? For anything you use regularly, yes.

Single-use alkaline batteries get binned the moment they go flat, so you buy them over and over. Our lithium-ion batteries recharge instead, so one purchase keeps working for years.

The maths is simple. Each cell recharges up to 1,000 times, so one battery can replace up to 1,000 disposable batteries over its life. A single 4-pack replaces up to 4,000 single-use batteries.

Over time, the savings stack up. Plus, it keeps thousands of dead cells out of landfills.

Switching also brings a few more everyday wins:

  • You always have charged cells on hand instead of dashing to the shop for replacements.
  • Your high-drain devices keep performing because the 1.5V output holds steady until empty.
  • You cut the packaging waste and loose batteries that pile up in the kitchen drawer.

How do Cygnett rechargeable batteries work?

Each battery stores energy in a lithium-ion cell, then releases it steadily as your device draws power. Once it runs low, you top it up through the USB-C port built into the battery itself.

What makes these cells safe to recharge is the protection circuitry built into every battery. It manages how the charge flows in and out, so you can plug in with total confidence.

Plenty of Aussie homes already run on rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Our batteries work on the same recharge-and-reuse idea and meet the same safety standards, with the convenience of USB-C charging.

What the numbers on your batteries actually mean

The numbers on a battery tell you how it will perform, so here is a quick translation.

Battery capacity is measured in mAh, and a higher number means longer runtime between charges. Our AA batteries carry 2,100mAh, while the AAA cells hold 525mAh. For comparison, most AA NiMH battery cells sit between 1900mAh and 2450mAh, with plenty landing around 2000mAh, so our AA capacity holds its own.

Charge cycles tell you how many times you can recharge a cell before it wears out. Ours handle up to 1,000 recharges each.

Voltage matters too. Standard rechargeables sag to 1.2V as they drain, which makes high-drain devices slow down, while our batteries hold a steady 1.5V until empty.

Lithium power for every device

Lithium power gives you consistent voltage and strong capacity. Together, they keep your devices bright, fast, and responsive right up until the recharge light comes on.

Matching the right size to the right device is easy, but make sure you check your devices before buying.

Use our AA batteries in high-drain devices like game controllers, digital cameras, kids' toys and torches. The constant 1.5V keeps them running at full pace.

Pick our AAA cells for smaller everyday devices like remotes, wireless mice, and keyboards.

Some low-drain devices still do better on disposable batteries. For instance, many smoke alarm manufacturers specify single-use batteries since the low-battery warning makes it easy to know when it is time to replace them. Always check the manual before switching.

How to charge and care for your rechargeable batteries

Each Cygnett rechargeable battery cell has its own USB-C port, so you can plug it straight into the included cable or any USB-C cable, then connect it to a wall charger, Power Bank, or Portable Power Station. No separate dock or battery charger to buy.

Every 4-pack includes a 30cm USB-C to 4x USB-C cable, so you can charge all four cells at once from a single USB port.

Charge times are quick. Our AA batteries go flat to full in 3.5 hours, and the AAA cells take just 1.8 hours. Built-in protection guards each charge against over-discharge, over-voltage and power surges.

Our batteries also include a built-in LED indicator that flashes while a cell is charging or running low, then stays solid once it is full. So, it’s pretty easy to tell when to plug them off.

Make sure to store loose cells away from keys and coins so the terminals can't touch metal and cause a short circuit. Keep them somewhere cool and dry, out of direct heat, and recharge them before they sit unused for long stretches.

Why Cygnett rechargeable batteries are the smartest swap

We're Cygnett, and we've been designing tech accessories in Australia since 2003. More than twenty years on, our rechargeable batteries carry the same practical, reliable design as the rest of our range.

Here's what makes them the smart swap:

  • Each battery charges over USB-C on its own, with no bulky cradle.
  • The included 4-in-1 cable charges four cells at once.
  • A steady 1.5V output keeps high-drain devices performing until empty.
  • Fast charging fills your AA batteries in 3.5 hours and AAA cells in 1.8 hours.
  • Up to 1,000 recharges per cell means a 4-pack can replace up to 4,000 single-use batteries.
  • Built-in protection covers over-discharge, over-voltage and power surges.
  • A 2-year warranty backs every pack, designed here in Australia.

Make the switch and start saving today

One 4-pack of our rechargeable batteries can do the work of up to 4,000 single-use batteries across its life. That's years of power from one purchase, with less waste and fewer shop trips.

So, shop our rechargeable batteries online today or grab them in-store at leading tech retailers across Australia and beyond.

Power that keeps up with your day starts with cells you never have to throw away.

FAQs

1. Do rechargeable batteries expire and how long do they last in storage?
Rechargeable batteries don't have a hard expiry date like a use-by label. An unused cell slowly loses a little charge over time, and its shelf life depends on how you store it. Lithium-ion cells like ours have a low self discharge, so stored cool and dry they hold their charge well and stay usable for years.

2. How should you store lithium rechargeable batteries when you're not using them?
Store your batteries somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. If you're storing them for a while, give them a top-up charge every few months, so they hold condition.

3. How do you safely dispose of or recycle rechargeable batteries in Australia?
Never bin them, since loose batteries can spark a fire in the rubbish. Drop them at a B-cycle recycling point instead. Tape over the terminals first so they're safe in transit.

4. Do rechargeable batteries get hot when charging, and is that normal?
A little warmth while charging is normal for lithium-ion batteries and nothing to worry about. The built-in protection guards against overvoltage and power surges, so each charge stays controlled. If a battery ever feels very hot, unplug it and let it cool before charging again.
