Your phone works hard on every drive. GPS, Bluetooth hands-free calls, music streaming, and navigation all pull from the same battery. Laptops can be running flat between meetings, or the kid’s iPads might be at risk of dying half way along the journey.
So, before you pull out of the driveway, make sure to grab a Cygnett car charger. We have wired and wireless car charger options, with outputs from 12W up to 65W, covering phones, iPads, and laptops. And with single port and dual port options for wired chargers, you can charge multiple devices at once without slowing down. Whatever your setup, we have the right charger for you.
Plug in or snap on?
You have two in-car charging options: wired and wireless.
Wired chargers plug directly into your car's 12V to 24V DC socket and deliver power through a charging cable. It's a direct connection, which means faster speeds and greater power delivery overall.
At Cygnett, we have single port USB-C car chargers and dual port car chargers with dual USB-C ports or a mix of both USB-C and USB-A. Depending on the charging ports, you will need to use either a USB-A or USB-C connector, or both.
Wireless charging works differently. A wireless car charger mounts onto your car vent or window to charge your phone through Qi wireless charging or MagSafe technology. Just snap your phone into place, and it starts charging instantly. But this only works with compatible devices like certain iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models, but Cygnett strongly recommends pairing with a compatible magnetic charging case for the strongest and safest charging.
Not sure which to pick?
Go wired if you want maximum speed and flexibility. It’s ideal for fast charge performance and charging multiple devices. Pick a wireless charger if you want convenience and a clutter-free setup.
And if you need to charge more than two devices at once, why not get both? Snap your phone into the wireless charger, then plug in your iPad and laptop into the wired adapter.
Why Cygnett is the best pick for car chargers in Australia
Cygnett has been designing tech accessories in Australia since 2003, and our in-car charger range reflects that depth of experience. Here's why it’s one of our best sellers:
1. Our wired car chargers deliver outputs from 12W up to 65W, so you can charge phones, tablets, and laptops from the one brand.
2. All wired chargers support 12V to 24V input, making them compatible with standard passenger vehicles, larger vehicles, and most electric vehicle models.
3. USB-C Power Delivery (PD) and QC 3.0 fast charging support on all models above 12w, covering both newer and legacy devices.
4. Our dual port options let you charge two devices at once, with mixed USB-C and USB-A port configurations available.
5. Designed in Australia and built to meet strict Australian standards.
6. 2 years warranty across the range.
How much wattage do you actually need from a car charger?
Wattage is the amount of power a charger can deliver. Higher wattage means faster charging, but only up to what your device can accept.
For iPhones and flagship Android phones, 20W to 30W is the sweet spot. An iPad or tablet charges better at 45W, and if you need your car to act as a mobile power supply for a laptop, go with our 65W USB-C PD Laptop Car Charger. It delivers the same fast charge performance you'd expect from our wall chargers, but draws from your car's 12V socket instead.
For older devices, we also have USB-A car chargers that deliver up to 12W of power. It’s perfect for devices with low wattage needs like tyre pressure monitors, Bluetooth receivers, or handheld fans.
If you prefer to go wireless, our MagSafe car chargers go up to 15W. That’s enough to charge your phone, but not as fast as a USB-C charger.
Using a higher wattage charger than your phone's rated wattage is safe. Your device draws only the amp level it's designed for, so plugging an iPhone into our 65W charger won't cause any issues.
Pair it with the right cable to get the best charging speed every time. We have USB-C to Lightning cables for iPhone 14 and earlier, plus USB-C to USB-C cables for iPhone 15 and newer models, Samsung phones, and other USB-C devices.
Are car phone chargers compatible with all devices?
No, they’re not one-size fits-all. Compatibility comes down to:
1. USB port type. Check if your device uses USB-C or USB-A. USB-C ports are smaller, oval, and reversible, while USB-A ports are larger, rectangular, and only plug in one way.
2. Power output. Match the charger’s output to your device. A low-wattage charger may not keep up with modern phones or tablets.
3. Charging standards. If your device supports charging standards like USB-C Power Delivery and QC 3.0, use a charger that does, and you'll feel the difference straight away.
Will a car charger drain your battery or damage your phone?
Most cars automatically cut power to the 12V socket when the engine is off, so car charging won't drain your car battery in normal use. Some vehicles do keep the socket live, so avoid running high-demand devices like tablets or laptops from the socket for extended periods when the engine is off.
Cygnett chargers also have built-in overcharge and overheat protection to keep your phone and car safe.
