Among the new designs are the Ripple, FlexiGel and SecondSkin II.These complement the broad range of Cygnett products that already fit both the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. Cygnett now has a total number of 31 case SKUs (13 case designs) for iPhone 4S in Australia.

You can't accuse this Australian company of thinking small: It has announced a line of 13 new case models for the iPhone 4, ranging in price from $15 to $40. The line includes the AeroGrip, AeroGrip Edge, Aerosphere, Arcade, Boston, Imperial, Manhattan, Milan, Nomad, Tactile, Transition, UrbanShield, and WorkMate Pro. Each model includes a screen protector and micro-fiber cleaning cloth.

There’s a lot to like about these cases, especially if you like leather folios. The iPad itself is framed by leather, a look that I don’t really like—I’d rather see as much of the iPad’s glass front as possible—but is quite common in folio cases. To insert the iPad, you remove a Velcro fastener from behind the left side of the leather frame and slide in the tablet. The leather frame keeps all ports and buttons accessible, including the iPad’s rear camera via a circular cut-out. Each of the Cygnett folios includes the requisite cover magnets to support the iPad 2 sleep/wake feature, so the device turns on when you open the front cover. The cover also features a separate magnetic clasp, so the front cover remains securely closed when you’re not using the iPad. The front cover is actually attached in the middle of the back of the case, where a hinge lets the cover fold out into a triangular configuration that props up the main part of the case; three strips on the inside of the cover provide for three different video-viewing angles.

Safety of my iPad is my utmost priority and this is why I love the folio cases, specially the leather ones. No matter how many people have Galaxy Tab or some other tablet, iPad 2 still manages to get some eye-balls in these geeky events. Having a good looking and well designed casing surely helps me in this regard. Cygnett has come out with some of the best iPad 2 folio cases I have seen.

One accessory we’d recommend for every iPad-owning parent is a car mount that fits on to a front seat and lets the kids watch their favourite movies on long trips. This one from Cygnett is a little flimsier than some, but has the advantages of being made for either generation of iPad and being easily mounted and removed. It can be angled and rotated any which way.

The Cygnett UrbanShield has quickly become my go to case as it gives you the look and feel of an aluminum case without the added weight or signal degradation. Considering the sides are a matte rubber finish there are no signal issues and feels great in the hand. You can see the attention to detail with the individual cutouts for the volume rockers and the additional piece of case between the power button and the headphone jack, a spot that is typically ignored in snap back cases but adds a little more protection. This case gets my Editor’s Choice Award and if it were easier to purchased would have secured a 10 out of 10. I hope with the popularity the supply chain and distribution will improve.

This particular skin works well for me on a day to day basis, when I just have my iPad 2 out at home. Moving it from room to room, I no longer have to be bothered with a case that has a front cover that can obscure my camera. Since I’m not concerned about damage to the screen at home, the SecondSkin Ink by Cygnett still protects the back from unsightly scratches as I take it from the desk to the kitchen counter and then the coffee table. When I do want to throw it in my bag for use outside my home, the skin is quickly and easily removed from the iPad to put into a ‘folio’ wallet or in a case with a front cover to protect the screen from scratching against other objects. My husband prefers the SecondSkin Ink on my iPad as well when he uses it; as my other two covers are pink and red!
